Hi, I’m Ruth - your freelance marketing partner

Hi, I’m Ruth – a freelance marketing director trading as Your Marketing Partner. My aim is to make strategic marketing support accessible, flexible, and genuinely helpful for small and growing businesses.


If you’re a business owner or leader who knows marketing is important but isn’t sure where to start, or know what’s working, then I’m here to help.


Why I started Your Marketing Partner UK

After years working in both large corporates and growing SMEs, I saw the same challenge: marketing is often misunderstood - used solely as communications or design, or is simply under-resourced. Businesses know they need it, but they don’t always know how to make it work for them, and SMEs and growing businesses can rarely afford a full-time senior marketer to help drive strategy.


That’s where Your Marketing Partner UK comes in.


My aim is to give SMEs access to experienced, strategic marketing leadership on a flexible basis, without the overhead of a full-time hire. I act as a trusted partner and advisor, helping business owners and leadership teams cut through the noise, focus on what matters, and deliver marketing that drives real results.

There’s no one-size-fits-all template. Every business is unique, with different goals, challenges, teams, and customers. I take the time to understand you to determine the right support requirements.

My role isn’t to hand you a slide deck and disappear. I’m here to be your marketing partner in the truest sense: someone who helps you navigate decisions, supports your team, and works alongside agencies or suppliers to make sure everything stays aligned.

Marketing is full of jargon with people jumping on the latest bandwagons and getting distracted by shiny new things. I cut through that. My job is to bring clarity, structure and momentum to your marketing—so you feel confident it’s actually working.

Whether you need a strategic lead a few days a month, help planning and delivering campaigns, or support guiding your team, I’ll fit in where I’m most useful and know I can make a difference.


Who I work with

I work with ambitious SMEs, usually based in the North West (but not exclusively), who are looking to grow, evolve, or simply make better use of their marketing. That might mean:


  • A business going through change and needing to reposition itself

  • A company with a junior marketing team who need leadership and direction

  • A founder-led business who’s been handling marketing solo and needs strategic support

  • A growing team who want to bring clarity and consistency to their marketing activity

  • A company about to embark on a significant investment, like a new website, product launch, or brand refresh, who wants independent, strategic input to ensure it's making the right choices


I've worked in a broad range of industries including energy, marine, engineering, and professional services and know that the common challenge is ensuring marketing makes sense and delivers impact.

Marketing works best when it’s clear, focused, and rooted in your business goals, not just the latest trend or what everyone else is doing. I help you focus on what matters: the activity that delivers real impact for your business.


My 3-step process is simple, but effective:

  1. Discover – The most important stage - I get to know your business, audience, and goal.

  2. Plan – Using this insight I help you create a focused, achievable marketing plan aligned with your objectives and resources

  3. Deliver – Depending on your set up this could include guiding your team or delivery partners, managing activity, and reviewing results to ensure impact and performance


A bit about me

With two decades of experience in both corporate and SME environments -spanning energy, marine, engineering, and professional services, I’ve built and led marketing functions from the ground up, developed high-performing teams, and worked closely with senior leaders to drive strategic change.


I thrive on a challenge and love solving complex problems creatively and practically. I bring a fresh, adaptive perspective to everything I do, and I’m deeply committed to supporting inclusive workplaces and diverse talent - professionally and personally. That passion is rooted in family too: my autistic sister runs her own brilliant dog grooming business, Mucky Mutts Macclesfield, and I couldn't be prouder.


I'm also Green Belt certified in LEAN Six Sigma process improvement, and one of the projects I’m proud of involved developing and launching a Voice of the Customer programme that improved insight and helped shape more customer-centric strategies.


Outside of work, I have a growing interest in property development, love travelling, gardening and spending time with my family. I'm based in Macclesfield in the North West, but am happy to work with clients across the UK.


I’m honest, supportive, and here to help you and your business grow with clarity, confidence, and a little less complication.
